Destination Overview: Things to do in Labadee

Royal Caribbean cruisers, on 5 and 7-day cruises, can enjoy an exclusive Caribbean retreat in Labadee. But what is Labadee and what are some things to do in Labadee?

Labadee is a heavily forested and mountainous Caribbean paradise with an expansive bay, and Royal Caribbean makes good use of the geography in planning things to do for its cruisers. The island is a day’s stop on Royal’s Eastern Caribbean cruises and here is our shortlist of the best activities in Labadee.

Popular Things to Do in Labadee, Haiti

Support the Locals

craft market in Labadee

Part of Royal Caribbean’s deal with the local government is allowing local craftspeople and merchants on the grounds to sell their wares. The Haitian Flea Market in Labadee probably isn’t going to be your best place to score deals on souvenirs on your cruise unless you’re a champion haggler, but the local artisans market is a bit more forgiving to neophyte deal makers.

Labadee Beach Time

Being on the beach is why you booked your cruise to begin with, and it’s what the Caribbean is famous for. Labadee has a really beautiful beach (a couple of them in fact) and you should make a little time to do nothing but enjoy the beach. While you’re at the beach, enjoy the popular “Labadoozie”, a frozen mixed drink to add to your tropical vacation.

Arawak Aqua Park

Labadee arawak water park

There is an inflatable park at nearly every cruise stopover and beach resort in the Caribbean. That doesn’t make them any less fun. These inflatable water parks combine the best parts of a bounce house, water park, and a day at the beach into one location that can be enjoyed in an hour, and is usually in sight of a bar or restaurant.

Kayak Adventures

Labadee’s kayak tour splits the difference between rowing and a history lesson. As you paddle around the expansive Labadee bay, you’ll learn about the history and culture of Haiti. It isn’t a long tour, so after you paddle back you’ll still have time to enjoy the other activities.

Labadee Wet Jet Tour

Labadee Jet Ski

It’s like the kayak tour, but with a jet engine and no lecturer. If you want to skip the paddling of the kayak tour and replace it with the spray of a wake every time you turn, then you’ll want to check out the high-speed Labadee jet ski tour.

Labadee Zipline

Labadee zip line

Labadee boasts the longest zip line over the water, and at 500 feet above the waves it isn’t for the faint-hearted. It is one of the most thrilling things to do in Labadee. If you’ve ever wanted to feel what it’s like to go 50 miles per hour without a car, then this is the ride for you. If you just want a really spectacular view of a tropical paradise, then this is also for you.

Alpine Coaster

labadee alpine coaster, one of many exciting things to do in labadee

Alpine Coasters are basically downhill tracks that follow the contours of the land. You simply let gravity pull you down along the track and enjoy the rush. They’re not very common yet, and rare outside of Europe and the Western US. The one in Labadee may very well be the only one that sends you whipping around groves of palm trees. Try not to ride the brake.
