Port Canaveral will be welcoming the latest megaship by Royal Caribbean International in May of 2019.
Harmony of the Seas will be leaving Fort Lauderdale’s Port Everglades to call Port Canaveral its new home. The ship will be replacing the similar-sized Oasis of the Seas, which is moving to Miami in 2019. Royal Caribbean anticipates Harmony’s new Central Florida location to target cruisers throughout Florida, Georgia and the Southeast region.
Harmony offers seven-night cruises to the Eastern and Western Caribbean. The megaship has a double-occupancy capacity of 5,479 and a maximum capacity of 6,687. It also features the tallest slide at sea and a children’s water park. Bookings for 2019- 2020 Harmony cruises from Port Canaveral will be available beginning on Nov. 13, 2017.
“This is great news for Port Canaveral. We are excited to be part of Royal Caribbean’s new deployment plans and proud of their confidence in us to support their brand,” said Port CEO Captain John Murray.
Additionally, Royal Caribbean’s Mariner of the Seas- a recently renovated 4,200 passenger ship- will also be relocating to Port Canaveral for the 2019- 2020 cruise season.
The Port anticipates the new major ship additions to contribute to its economic engine of $6 million a day. It described the Harmony and the Mariner as ships that “represent some of the best products in the cruise industry offering vacations to the Caribbean.”
