Port Canaveral Now Offering Sailings to Cuba

Port Canaveral reached another milestone as the Norwegian Sun had its first-ever sailing to Havana, Cuba on Monday, May 7.

The Norwegian Sun returned to Port Canaveral to begin its homeport during the Summer 2018 sailing season after undergoing extensive dry-dock enhancements. The new Norwegian Cruise Line four-night itinerary departs every Monday from Port Canaveral and offers overnight stops in Havana, as well as Key West, and three-night itineraries to the Bahamas.

In Havana, Norwegian Sun passengers will arrive in the Havana Harbor, which is located in the center of Old Havana. Guests will have the unique opportunity to explore the rich culture and history of Cuba with OFAC (U.S.Treasury Office of Foreign Assets) compliant shore excursions.

Interest in the Norwegian Cruise Line’s inaugural itinerary to Cuba was at an all-time high. On its first sailing, the ship reached the maximum capacity of 2,400 passengers and is believed to remain popular until its temporary halt in September. “I think anytime you add a new destination, it brings new people to the mix, and we are excited that Norwegian is bringing us our first Cuban sailing,” said Port Canaveral CEO John Murray.

“We are excited to welcome back Norwegian Sun to Port Canaveral for these new voyages to Havana, Cuba,” said Port CEO Captain John Murray. “We’re proud of our partnership with Norwegian Cruise Lines and pleased to be hosting these new sailing opportunities for cruise guests this summer season.”

The newly renovated ship offers a variety of dining options, bars and lounges, onboard shopping, spa and entertainment. All guests sailing aboard the Norwegian Sun’s Cuba or Bahamas cruises from Port Canaveral will benefit from the ship’s all-inclusive program and enjoy unlimited complimentary beverages.

The Norwegian Sun sails out of Port Canaveral’s recently remodeled Cruise Terminal 10, in which the Port invested more than $35 million in renovation. “Today’s embarkation to Cuba validates the Port’s ongoing investments in state-of-the-art facilities and continuous improvement in cruise operations, earning the confidence of some of the world’s most successful cruise brands.

Norwegian Sun voyages are available now and will continue weekly sailings until a temporary halt in September. Cuba sailings are scheduled to resume in April 2019.
