The answer, as illustrated to the left, is VERY safe! In recent years there has been a sharp decline in crime on all the Port Canaveral cruise ships. It’s to the point where the year is half over and we have no reported crimes in 2015.
But which ship is the safest? Over the last 5 year period Disney Cruise Lines came out as top dog in the safety department.
What Makes Cruising Safe
Cruising is not only safe from crime but it is also safe for your health. The study compiled data on the health inspection scores from all the cruise lines and every ship stationed at Port Canaveral has passed their inspections since 2010. So what is reducing crime on cruises and making your vacation of choice so much safer?
Private Security
The cruise lines all employ professional security to keep their passengers safe. These security guards are responsible for immediate response to the crime as well as follow up with the local authorities. An article from Florida Today suggests that cruise lines could have a conflicting interest where the securities main function is to preserve the company’s reputation rather than offer passenger protection. It is obvious however that these two interests go hand in hand. With the technology today it is almost impossible to hide corporate mishaps from the public eye (just ask United Airlines) so it is in the companies best interest to keep you safe and sound during your cruise. Passengers of Disney Cruise Lines seem quite happy with the services rendered by the cruise lines’ private security.
Quality Control
Every time the ships dock they are thoroughly cleaned and inspected for health safety issues and twice a year, each ship that makes port in the United States is inspected by a team from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Vessel Sanitation Program.
“At Royal Caribbean International, we have high health standards for all our guests and crew,” said Cynthia Martinez, Royal Caribbean’s director of global corporate communications. “We work very closely with the United States Public Health to immediately correct any deficiencies found aboard our ships.”
