How was the Disney Wish announced?
At the biannual D23 Expo in Anaheim California, Disney Cruise Line revealed details about their fifth upcoming ship expected to sail from Port Canaveral in 2022. Slightly larger than the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy, it will be the first in a series of three new Disney ships to be fueled by liquefied natural gas. They named this ship the Disney Wish — capturing a common theme found in many of Disney’s best stories. To carry on the Disney Cruise Line tradition of character sculptures decorating the ship’s stern, the Disney Wish will feature a playful Rapunzel and her sidekick, Pascal. In this tribute to Tangled, Rapunzel will hang from her famous locks while painting the ship’s name. Her adventurous nature and desire to experience the world embodies the spirit of the Disney Wish.
What will the Disney Wish feature?
When it comes to the ship’s interior, a rendering of the ship’s atrium was also previewed at the D23 Expo. This open space is bright and elegant, creating an atmosphere that is nothing short of enchanting. More details about the ships design will be announced in the future.
Where will the Disney Wish sail to?
Disney also revealed the location of their second tropical Bahamian destination. It’ll be right on the island of Eleuthera at a place known as Lighthouse Point. Construction is set to be completed by 2023 or sooner. Their veteran executive Imagineer, Joe Rohde, whose work includes the design of Disney’s Animal Kingdom and Aulani, Disney’s Hawaiian Resort & Spa, has been closely studying the culture of the island. He points out that Disney will be preserving the environment and working with local artists to create an authentic experience for guests. Not only will the Eleuthera destination embrace the unique culture of the Bahamas, but it’s sure to include Disney’s magic touch.
