Holy Pina Colada, Capt. Morgan!!
Cocoa Beach officials want to ban alcohol consumption on one of the city’s hottest and most popular beaches.
To crack down on the throngs of sometimes unruly – OK, drunken beachgoers – City Manager Bob Majka has proposed a 2015 beach-drinking moratorium from March 1 to Sept. 30 at “The Ramp” area of Cocoa Beach, according to Florida Today.
Now, “The Ramp” area is home to two long-time, beachfront watering holes, the Beach Shack and Coconuts on the Beach. And, it’s no secret that the adjacent coastline, spanning numerous blocks north and south, is notorious for attracting fun-loving, and yes, sometimes disorderly visitors.
The good news is that this proposal, if approved, won’t affect Port Canaveral cruising industry or Go Port services, but it may impact the cruise traveler who ventures down to the area looking for a bit of fun and excitement.
Bummer.
Local business owners also are unhappy with the proposal, and rightfully so, since they fear the ban will deter beachgoers from coming to the area at all. They obviously want vodka in the Kool-Aid they’re drinking.
Maybe city officials should rethink the proposal before they put all their beach balls in one constituent sack. Otherwise …
Holy Ghost Town, Casper!!
