Carnival Freedom Joins Port Canaveral’s Fleet

Updated on January 18, 2023

This April, the Carnival Freedom will be leaving Miami to replace the Elation and call Port Canaveral her new home. In comparison, the Freedom is a newer and larger ship — highly-anticipated to be a popular choice among Carnival’s lineup. Carnival Cruise Line foresees the Freedom’s new Central Florida location to meet popular demands from cruisers and reflects their confidence in Port Canaveral as the port of choice for their best ships.

The Carnival Freedom originally debuted in 2007 and has since undergone a major refurbishment in 2019 with Carnival’s Fun Ship 2.0 enhancements. These upgrades geared toward families and multigenerational cruisers include a new WaterWorks aqua park, a revamped miniature golf course, expanded dining options, elevated activity spaces, and updated retail locations.

Activities and Entertainment

The Carnival Freedom provides an amazing value to cruisers and truly lives up to her name with a fun-for-all-ages atmosphere. Cruisers are invited to leave their stresses behind to indulge in exciting onboard activities!

The Carnival Freedom is the first cruise ship to present four full PlayList Productions that bring your favorite tunes to life. If you would rather be in the spotlight, Lip Sync Battle is the place for you! This competition series allows cruisers to take the mic with props, music, lighting, choreographers, and backup dancers on stage to elevate their performance in front of a full audience. For even more entertainment, guests of any age can spend their evening laughing out loud at the Punchliner Comedy Club, featuring both family-friendly and adult-only shows. There are also themed deck parties and Dive-In Movies by the pool, ideal for family movie nights or date nights under the stars. As for the teens onboard, Club O2 and Circle “C” are the best spots to make new friends, play arcade games, and dance the day away.

This ship is also the first to feature Camp Ocean, replacing Camp Carnival as the ship’s popular children’s program, as well as Bookville, a reading room and play area centering the Seuss at Sea experience. The Camp Ocean kids area even has an arts and crafts room to encourage parents to participate in their children’s creativity. With Seuss at Sea, kids and adults alike will have the opportunity to march in a parade, meet the ‘The Cat in the Hat’, and test tasty treats from Dr. Seuss’ books.

For more thrill-seeking fun, Carnival’s signature WaterWorks park delivers the excitement you crave. This aquatic adventure area features a wide variety of waterslides, a giant drench bucket, and a SplashZone for the little ones! There are also four swimming pools around the ship so you can soak up the sun no matter where you are chilling. For drier onboard fun, the Carnival Freedom features a nine-hole miniature golf course. Active cruisers also have the option to participate in many activities like joining exercise and dance classes, jogging the outdoor track, and visiting the modern Fitness Center.

Looking to slow down the pace? The library on the Freedom offers a vast collection of books and games for those who want some casual downtime. Art activities include seminars, exhibitions, and auctions — all free of charge. In addition, cooking demonstrations onboard give cruisers a chance to show off their newly learned culinary skills when they get back on land. Grown-ups looking to get away from the buzz can unwind at Serenity, a complimentary adults-only retreat deck with two large hot tubs, a pool, bar, a luxury lounge area, and extra shade. Guests over 18 can escape to ZSpa and MediSpa for the ultimate state of tranquility, where specialists offer massages, facials, body wraps, thermal suites, and other de-stressing care for an additional charge.

Dining

The Carnival Freedom offers a variety of dining options onboard. One of the two main dining rooms, Posh, serves American dishes with a twist. The name alludes to the casual yet elegant decor and features an aft ocean view. The menu has a variety of starters with main entrees that rotate every night. Similar to Posh, the Chic dining room provides all the same delights but is intended for cruisers who prefer eating on the “Your Time Dining” plan. Chic also hosts the Green Eggs and Ham character breakfast, available by reservation for a small fee.

The Freedom Restaurant (commonly known as the lido buffet) has no shortage of food selection, serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily. There are also pizza and ice cream stations on the Lido Deck open 24 hours a day. Special counters such as the Deli, Fish & Chips, and Mongolian Wok are like entering small, specialized eateries of different cuisines. New complimentary additions to the Lido Deck like Guy’s Burger Joint and BlueIguana Cantina also add variety to the typical buffet options. There are enough topping options for your burgers and burritos to have a different combination every day of your sailing!

For those willing to pay for more upscale dining, there are additional options available for an upcharge. The Chef’s Table offers special dining experiences that allow you to meet the chef and tour the venue, while the Sun King Steakhouse has an extensive wine list to pair with exquisite cuts of meat. Looking for some coffee and desserts outside of the dining room? Viennese Cafe offers a full caffeinated beverage menu and treats to satisfy your sweet tooth.

Bars and Nightlife

There is a bar for every occasion aboard the Carnival Freedom. In the mood for some mojitos? RedFrog Rum Bar and BlueIguana Tequila Bar on the Lido Deck offer tropical concoctions alongside homemade salsa and chips. Feeling fancy? Alchemy Bar, themed as a vintage-style pharmacy, has unique cocktail “elixirs” mixed by expert bartenders. Feeling competitive? The SkyBox Sports Bar brings an action-packed experience to life with games, spirits, snacks, and plenty of TV screens for sports enthusiasts. Let loose to some tunes at the Piano Bar with classic cocktail favorites or jam out to island-rock performances on the Lido Deck. There is also a casino bar for those feeling lucky — play blackjack, slots, and other exciting table games. With enough casino points, guests can earn free drinks while they play. You can end the evening at the Freedom’s night club where Carnival’s DJs spin the hottest hits.
